This year, in 2023, Handgards celebrates the 50th anniversary of manufacturing disposable food service items in El Paso, Texas and to remind consumers the ‘Made in America’ label is essential.
Handgards is a privately equity-owned company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Although the Hawkins facility opened in El Paso in 1973, Handgards was founded in 1959 as Plasticsmith and officially became Handgards in 1966. Now under new ownership and still manufacturing food service disposables, the company’s latest milestone is celebrating 50 years of tradition in El Paso and sharing our expertise with consumers worldwide.
Handgards was established as a company that specializes in craftsmanship, and attention to detail, and is known to have manufactured the first poly gloves made right here in El Paso.
We’ve watched the city grow around us and are amazed daily by our employees’ skills and dedication. We now have two beautiful facilities where our employees can be proud to work at every day. It’s a tremendous accomplishment to reach this milestone. With the help of hardworking local people, Handgards has developed a great culture and mission.Â
